The Aranykatica garden was the second garden to be established in Kispest, in Budapest. It was launched exactly 13 years ago; it’s strange to see how time has flown. Time sure flies.
Originally, this was an illegal dog-walking area—a long, narrow plot of land. Since then, the garden community has become a very interesting group. They cook a lot, and every Friday during the season they hold a garden party where they cook, chat, and bond—it’s a powerful way to bring people together.
What surprised me was how much their fruit trees have grown, and they’re expecting an amazing harvest. The garden beds are in great shape, and the communal area has really come together—it’s a well-established, thriving part of the garden. They even have a pizza oven, which is a real hit; making pizza together is a true community event.
The garden has come into its own; from now on, maintaining the status quo is the most important thing—let the garden and the community remain at this level of success.
I love this garden and this community; it’s a great example of what a community garden should look like and how it should function.
